APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1/2 stick butter
2 eggs
1 c. nuts
2 c. applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. raisins, cooked in water
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Cream shortening and sugars. Add 2 eggs, beating. Add soda, baking powder, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and flour. Add raisins (drained) and nuts. If batter looks dry add some raisin water. Pour in greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees 50 to 60 minutes. Use Caramel Icing on top.

CARAMEL ICING:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. milk
1 3/4 to 2 c. powdered sugar

Melt butter and brown sugar in pan. Boil 2 minutes, stirring. Stir in milk. Bring to a boil. Remove, let cool, beat until smooth. Drip over cake.
