ITALIAN CREME CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 stick (1/4 lb.) butter
1/2 c. shortening
5 egg yolks (save whites)
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
1 (3 1/2 oz.) can coconut
1 c. nuts, chopped

Beat together first 3 ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Beat egg whites and fold in last. Makes 3 layers. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. (8 inch layers).

FROSTING:

8 oz. cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 (1 lb.) box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Whip together and spread on cake.
