1 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, beat a little
1 c. lard (shortening)
1 c. dark molasses
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
Flour

Mix together sugar, lard, molasses, add boiling water. Mix. Add rest of ingredients and enough flour to make a soft dough. Roll out, cut with cookie cutters, and bake.
