BOHEMIAN KOLACHY OR SWEET ROLL | |
2 c. milk, scalded 2 pkg. dry yeast 1 c. shortening 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 3 eggs, beaten 1 c. warm water About 6 c. flour Prune, apricot or poppy seed filling Dissolve yeast in warm water. Cream sugar, shortening, eggs and salt. Mix together. Add flour and knead a few minutes. Put in greased bowl and let rise, about 1 hour until double. Divide in parts to work on floured board, roll to 1/4 inch. Cut with cookie cutter and place on greased cookie sheet. Grease top and sides with butter and let rise about 30 minutes. Make a depression in center with fingers, pushing dough to sides and fill with prune, or poppy seed filling or apricot or etc. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. When brown, remove and grease sides with butter. |
