HOMEMADE YEAST BREAD | |
1 c. warm water 2 pkgs. quick-rise yeast 1 tsp. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 3/4 c. sugar 1/4 c. salt 2 c. water 2 c. milk 5 lbs. plain or bread flour Mix together in tall glass water, yeast and sugar. Set aside. In large bowl mix together shortening, sugar, salt, water and milk. When mixed add flour a small amount at a time along with yeast and water mixture. Knead dough until smooth. Cover with Handi-wrap. Let it set until it rises to about 3 times its size. When risen, divide into 4 loaf pans coated with butter. Let rise until double its size. Pat loaves with butter to have golden brown crust. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour at 400 degrees. |
