APPLESAUCE - PINEAPPLE DUMP CAKE
1 (16 oz.) can sweetened applesauce (or 2/3rds 24 oz. jar)
1 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple with juice
1 pkg. yellow cake mix (your favorite)
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
whipped cream or ice cream, for topping (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 9x13-inch pan.

Spread applesauce in bottom of pan. Spread crushed pineapple, with juice, over applesauce. Spread yellow cake mix over pineapple. Melt butter and pour on top of cake mix. Spread nuts over cake mix. DO NOT STIR!

Bake at 350°F for about 1 hour. Top with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired

Variation: Cake can also be made using 1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling in place of applesauce. In this case, pineapple should be on bottom and the butter should be cut into pats and placed over top of cake mix.
