FRENCH APPLE PIE
1 sour cream pie dough
8 lg. apples (Mcintosh or Stayman)
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. apple juice
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. white raisins
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar

Roll out pie crust for a 9 inch pie. Combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, apple juice and heat over medium heat until apples just begin to cook. Stir in vanilla. Pour into pie crust. Make a crumb mixture with the butter, brown sugar and butter. Spread over apple mixture. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Yields 8 servings.

It might be a good idea to place the pie plate on a cookie sheet in the oven because it may cook over and what a mess.

Great use of a firmer cooking apple. The recipe calls for butter, brown sugar and butter again for the crumb top. I changed the 2nd butter to flour and cut the butter, flour and sugar together then spooned it on the top of the pie.
