This is hilarious! I haven't made this in years, but am planning it soon...looked up the recipe to refresh my memory on what to put in it, and wow! LOL!! I do remember using cream of mushroom soup, green beans, and hamburger...with the TATER TOTS on top...I'd forgotten about the cheese! And, lighten up OnyxRose...it's all in good fun! :o)

Oh my Goddess, folks its a recipe, a guideline not a law written in stone, you find a recipe that looks good and try it if not satisfied with the results then change it up next time around or find another recipe, no big deal eh?

What a blast! I thought I would see what this Tater Tot recipe was like. Mine is much easier. Layer 1 lb. (raw) ground beef on bottom of 9x11 dish. Slice 1 sm. onion, layer on top of (raw) beef, then layer 1 can cream of chicken and 1 can cream of celery over onions. Cover with 1 bag of Tater Tots. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour... I found it in an old, old, old cookbook, it was called Raw Hamburger Casserole. I'm pretty sure it is the original Tater Tot Casserole.... How funny.

The True Tater Tot Casserole
Layer (in a deep dish)
1. Meatballs
2. Cream of Mushroom Soup (or cheddar soup)
3. French Style Green Beans
4. Sliced Cheese (deluxe or velveeta-one that melts well)
5. then finally, the Tots :) (or whatever frozen potatoes are available to you)
Cook 1 hour (or until cheese is melted and meatballs a heated through) cover first 30min, uncovered last 30 min to give the potatoes a crispy brown yummyness
~~~~ serve with or w/o ketchup as a topping/dipper
My husband loves tater or tator tots? I buy a bag every few years. You BETTER BELIEVE I'll buy a bag this week just to try this recipe out. Like the idea of adding hamburger. The comments are way too funny. What a great commercial!
