OLD FASHIONED BISCUITS
2 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. buttermilk

Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar in mixing bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. With fork, stir in buttermilk to make a soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured board and knead about 10 times to form a smooth ball. Do not over knead or biscuits will not be tender. Roll out to a 6 x 6 inch square. Place on ungreased baking sheet. With knife, cut dough into 12 portions. Do not separate; leave biscuits in square. Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes.
