OLD-FASHIONED BUTTERMILK
BISCUITS
 
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk

Combine dry ingredients; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Add buttermilk, stirring until well mixed. Turn dough out onto floured surface, and knead lightly 3 or 4 times.

Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness; cut into rounds with a 2 1/2 inch cutter. Bake at 475 degrees for 10 minutes or until golden. Yield: 14 biscuits.
