BEEF AND BEAN DINNER 
1 lb. ground beef
6 strips bacon, cut into sm. pieces
1 c. onion, chopped
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 c. catsup
1 tbsp. liquid smoke (optional)
3 tbsp. white vinegar
1 (15 oz.) can butter lima beans, drained
1 (15 oz.) can pork and beans, undrained
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

Brown the ground beef in a large frying pan over medium heat. Drain off excess fat. Put the beef in a 3 1/2 quart slow cooker, for all day cooking; or in a Dutch oven for a quick stove top version. In the same pan, fry the bacon pieces and onion over medium-low heat, until the bacon is cooked and the onion is tender. Add to the ground beef and mix well. Add the remaining ingredients to the cooker or Dutch oven and stir to combine. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for a minimum of 4 hours and a maximum of 9 hours. If using a Dutch oven, partially cover and simmer over low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serves 6.
