EASY GELATIN | |
1 envelope Knox Gelatin 1/2 cup cold water or juice (except pineapple) 1 cup liquid (any) 1/4 cup sugar (or to taste) If you are making a savory (salad) type gelatin, you can also add 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Sprinkle gelatin slowly over cold water or juice, while stirring constantly to distribute the granules and prevent lumps. Let stand for 5 minutes while the gelatin dissolves and expands. Stir in boiling liquid and add other ingredients. Served plain, this makes about 2 cups. For fruits and meats that may be added, you can allow the gelatin to congeal slightly (don't wait until it sets up). This will keep additions from settling to the bottom. You can add up to four cups of meats, vegetables or fruits. 1 tablespoon or packet of gelatin will congeal about 1 pint of liquid. If you are making a mold, lightly oil the mold to allow the gelatin to be released more easily. |
