1/2 THE CALORIES JELLO | |
If you have a palate which appreciates a lesser degree of sweetness or you're simply on a reduction diet, try this recipe the next time you make Jello. It makes a dessert that's cool on hot Summer nights, easy to prepare, economical (double the quantity), and 1/2 the calories of the normal preparation. It can be served as is, without the need for using artificial sweeteners. Stir in fruit cocktail for an extra twist (reduce water by 1/2 cup). Any flavor Jello will do. If you prefer more sweetness, add your favorite low calorie sweetener, or even a bit of honey or granulated sugar, to taste. You may also dissolve the Knox Gelatine in fruit juice for added sweetness without resorting to using artificial sweeteners (just don't use pineapple juice or it won't set!). Try creative combinations such as coconut juice with bananas!. 1 pkg. Jello (sugar - no artificial sweetener) 1 cup boiling water 1 pkg. granulated Knox Gelatin 1 cup hot water 2 cups cold water Empty package of Jello into a medium bowl; pour in boiling water, stir, and allow to dissolve for 2-3 minutes. Meanwhile, dissolve the Knox Gelatin in a cup of hot water. Allow this to sit for several minutes, stirring until completely dissolved. Pour the dissolved Knox Gelatine into the bowl of Jello. Stir to combine. At this point, decide if you'll be adding fruit; if so, add 1 cup fruit cocktail or other fresh fruit; stir in 1 1/2 cups cold water. (With less water, you can also add this to fancy molds). If you're not adding fruit and are just serving it plain, add 2 cups water to the bowl of Jello and Knox Gelatine mixture. Stir well. Cover and refrigerate until the mixture is "set" (about 4 hours or overnight). Serve as is or with fruit or whipped cream. Submitted by: CM |
