APPLE CREAM WITH CREAM CHEESE
FILLING

FILLING:

2 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese (lite)
2 tbsp. sugar
1 egg
1/3 c. chopped apple

APPLE BREAD:

1/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3 tbsp. sour milk or buttermilk
3 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla or 1/2 vanilla, 1/2 almond flavoring
3 c. chopped apples

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, mix well. Dissolve soda in sour milk and add to shortening mixture. Add flour, salt and vanilla. Pour 1/2 batter into greased loaf pan (9 x 5). Spread cream cheese filling on top. Add remaining batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean. (1/2 teaspoon vinegar to 3 tablespoon milk = sour milk). You may use the cream cheese filling in any other quick bread recipe (eliminate apple).

Bread tastes better if made a day or two in advance. 1 large or 2 small loaves. You may glaze top of bread with melted apple jelly after it is baked.
