APPLE BARS | |
3/4 c. unsalted butter, softened 1 c. firmly packed dark brown sugar 2 eggs, one at a time 1 1/4 c. unsifted all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. grated nutmeg 1/4 tsp. ground cloves 1 c. old fashioned rolled oats 1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts 2 lg. green tart cooking apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/4 inch dice Beat together butter and sugar; add eggs. Mix flour, soda, baking powder, and spices. Add to butter mixture just until blended. Stir in oats, nuts, and apples. Turn into a 13 x 9 x 2 inch greased pan. Spread evenly. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched. Cool on wire rack. Sift top with confectioners' sugar. Cut into 24 bars. |
