W. V. PRIZE WINNING APPLE PIE 
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. sugar
11 tbsp. butter flavored Crisco
4-6 tbsp. ice water

FILLING:

6-7 lg. apples, sliced thin (Granny Smith, Winesap, McIntosh)
2 tbsp. tapioca
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2-1 c. brown sugar
3-4 tsp. melted butter

Crust: Mix flour, salt, sugar and Crisco with dough blender until size of small peas. Sprinkle water over and gently form into a ball. Divide crust into 2 equal balls and roll and line a 9 1/2 inch to 10 inch pie pan.

Filling: Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Combine all ingredients for filling in bowl. Toss lightly until slices are coated. Fill crust. Put on top crust.

Topping: Beat 1 egg and 3 tablespoons milk. Brush on top. Sprinkle on 1 tablespoon sugar. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes - 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
