I love this recipe... For ease in mixing it all together... Put it in a Ziploc bag and kneed away... Much nicer on the hands... Mix meatloaf the same way... I love clean hands whenever possible !!!!

I use half mild italian sausage and half hot; three cups of sharp cheddar, and a little milk instead of water to keep mixture from getting too dry. You can never go wrong with sausage balls!

I have had these several times and always thought they were dry. So when I made them last I doubled the meat and they were SO good they almost didn't make it to the pty I was cooking them for.. :-)

1 lb medium Rice's pork sausage browned and drained, 3 cups sifted Bisquick, 1 lb of sharp cheddar cheese and 2/3 cup of milk. Blend together well, then cook in a 325°F oven for 15-18 minutes. Perfect every time. Got this out of my mommy's recipe book. Enjoy

I make these for our annual Christmas morning buffet. I use turkey sausage and add some (Frank's) pepper sauce. I also reduce the amount of Bisquick to less than a cup. I finely grind mushrooms and spinach with some Pecorino Romano cheese through the food processor and add that, too. The dough hook on my stand mixer mixes it all easily. It makes a lot of meatballs, and they always disappear.

 Beth (Michigan) says:
Love these with Horseradish sauce as a dip. If you can find it, it looks like mayo but has horseradish in it. Yummy

I added cut up fresh apples! Yummy!

I make big batches, roll into balls, and freeze on a wax paper tray. Then they can be dropped into freezer bags, and you are ready to cook up a dozen or so at a time when you want them beside some scrambled eggs for a really easy breakfast.

 Janet (Texas) says:
This is a family favorite snack. Try placing a green pimento stuffed olive in the center of the sausage ball for a different taste. It's delicious!!!

 Trish (North Carolina) says:
I always use hot italian sausage and substitute hot pepper sauce or tabasco for the water. If you like them spicy, this is the way to go

 Staci (Nevada) says:
I made these with 1/4 milk instead of the water, used spicy beef chorizo instead of regular sausage, and Pioneer mix instead of Bisquick (it's what I had on hand). They kinda flattened out a little because of how greasy the chorizo was, but they were phenomenal!!! Next time I'll probably add a little more Pioneer mix so they hold their shape a bit more....but nom nom nom...

I always make a mustard sauce for dipping and everyone loves them. Super Bowl must!

 Virgil (North Carolina) says:
Replace 1/4 cup water with 1/4 cup milk for a richer version of the above. Yummy!!!

 Tyrone (California) says:
I have made this recipe a few times, without the water and have added to it only for flavor, diced onion and finely diced jalapeno.

 Lisa King (North Carolina) says:
For a quicker mix, microwave the sausage for 1 minute in a safe mixing bowl. It mixes like a dream. Then it is much easier to add your extra goodies and ensure a good blend.
