HOMEMADE DOUGHNUTS 
8 slices white bread, cut in 1/4's
1 1/2 c. biscuit mix
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 beaten egg
3/4 c. milk
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Mix all above ingredients except the bread pieces. Heat 1 cup liquid oil in pan. Dip bread pieces in batter and place in oil. Turn doughnuts in oil. When golden, remove and place on paper towel.

While warm, place in a bowl filled with granulated sugar. Coat both sides. (Can coat with cinnamon and sugar, too.) Yum.

This works well and I'll use it again. I sort of think it is a lot like French toast. I used a thick bread, a health style and it worked better cut into 6ths.
