CHRISTMAS ROCK COOKIES
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. brown sugar (not packed)
4 eggs
3 c. all purpose flour, sifted twice
1 tbsp. buttermilk
3 scant tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. each nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, ginger cloves
1 qt. chopped pecans
1 lb. raisins
1/2 lb. candied cherries
1/2 lb. candied pineapple

Cream butter and sugar. Add buttermilk to eggs. Mix soda and spices with flour. Alternately add liquid mixture and flour mixture to creamed sugar and butter, mixing thoroughly. Add pecans, raisins, cherries and pineapple.

Cook in 300 degree oven until done. This makes a good drop cookie and I also make them in muffin tins. This makes up like a small fruit cake and is a good Christmas dessert. When placed in airtight container, these will mellow for weeks as a fruit cake.

I've been looking for this recipe for years - didn't know the name. Wasn't able to make it exactly to recipe. I used pecans and hazelnuts instead of walnuts and almonds. I didn't have any candied pineapple so I used more red and green cherries. Didn't have enough dates, either. I used my smallest scoop for the cookies and they turned out beautifully. My husband liked them very much. Will make again next year.
