1/2 lb. butter
1/2 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
3 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
5 eggs
1 c. milk

Cream butter and shortening; add sugar and cream thoroughly. Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each one; add flour mixture and milk alternately ending with milk. Add vanilla; mix thoroughly on medium speed. Bake at 350 degrees in tube pan for 1 hour, 10 minutes or until sides turn loose from pan.
