LILAY'S CHERRY NUT NUGGETS 
1 c. shortening
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. almond extract
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. finely chopped nuts
1 sm. jar maraschino cherries, halved

Cream shortening and cream cheese. Add sugar, egg and almond extract. Stir well. Sift all dry ingredients and mix into creamed mixture. Chill dough. Form into 1 inch balls. Dip each into nuts and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press 1 halved cherry in center of cookies. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Makes 4 1/2 dozen.
