SCONES 
2 c. flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 tbsp. sugar (or 1 tbsp. brown sugar)
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. shortening
2/3 c. currants or seedless raisins
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. grated orange peel (optional)

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl. Cut in shortening. Add remaining ingredients; stir lightly to combine. Turn into well-buttered 8-inch round pan. Mark into 6 wedges with knife. Bake about 25 minutes. Serve warm. Split and spread with butter, jelly or "clotted cream."
