ESCALLOPED APPLES 
6 apples, pared and sliced
1 c. water
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Put apples in water and cook slightly. Remove apples and add rest of ingredients to liquid. Cook until liquid is thick and clear. Put apples in casserole and dot with butter. Pour thickened liquid over and bake in oven at 325 degrees for 60 minutes. This liquid may be tinted with red food coloring.
