OLD FASHIONED RAISIN BAR (SHEET
CAKE)
 
1 c. raisins
1 c. water
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 3/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Combine water and raisins in saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Stir in egg and sugar and then add dry ingredients. Stir in nuts. Pour into greased pan (15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch). Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes or until done. Dust slightly with powdered sugar or frost. Makes 4 dozen.
