SPONGE CAKE 
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. milk
1 tbsp. butter

Add sugar and eggs and beat well. Add the baking powder, flour, salt, and vanilla and beat well. Heat the milk and the butter. Add to mixture and beat well.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes in 8 x 8 pan. Very good as a strawberry shortcake or cherry pie filling with whipped cream.
