HERB BREAD 
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk, scalded
3 to 3 1/2 c. sifted all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. ground sage
2 tsp. celery seed
1 slightly beaten egg

Soften yeast in water. Combine next 4 ingredients; cool to lukewarm. Add about half of the flour and mix well. Add nutmeg, sage, celery seed, softened yeast, and egg; beat smooth. Add remaining flour or enough to make a moderately soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth (8 minutes). Place in lightly greased bowl, turning dough once. Cover; let double (1 1/2 hours). Punch down; cover and let rest 10 to 15 minutes. Shape in round loaf; place in greased 8 or 9 inch pie plate. Cover; let rise till almost double (45 to 60 minutes). Bake at 400 degrees for 35 minutes or till done.
