AMISH DATE PUDDING 
1 c. boiling water
1 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
1 c. flour
1 tbsp. butter
1 egg, beaten
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts

Pour boiling water over dates and soda; let set until cool. Add to rest of the ingredients. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut in squares and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
