I've used this recipe a couple times and my only personal adjustment would be the less sugar. However, I almost got scared that I couldn't find this particular recipe. Thanks for sharing!

I cut out the sugar completely, used a whole container of frozen orange juice concentrate, 1 quart of cran-apple, the juice from a can of pineapple chunks, and added 8 whole cloves as well as the allspice berries and cinnamon sticks. It turned out great!

I remember a Wassail recipe I made years ago where you stuck whole cloves into oranges, baked them for 45 minutes, then floated them in the bowl. The rest seems like this recipe. Can you shed any light?

Seems a little much. A more simple version, and just as tasty, would be using a cranberry/apple juice, cutting out the OJ and allspice and sticking cloves in orange slices. And you don't need ANY sugar, pineapple or lemon juice.(probably the reason for the sugar. This recipe has too many ingredients battling each other for flavor. Try the simple version...it's awesome.

Gina I'm glad you like it :) I based this off of my Mom's recipe (which she lost) I kept trying until I got it where it tasted the way I remembered hers tasting. Carol...you are probably talking about the one my Mom made me as a child but I didn't remember her baking anything... I will have to try that! Cosmo, I think your suggestions are great I had reasons why I had certain things in here my husband hates clove, I believe my mom's may have used clove. I personally felt the cran-apple combo juice had too much cran and not enough apple. I would love to try without the other juices because this ends up being a bit pricey. If I could cut out sugar that's be fabulous. Thanks for the feedback and I hope there are many more who like this recipe than just those who have posted. I like having it on Cooks.com so I can find it when I misplace it :) -Megan

I am with Chef Cosmo, no need for the other juices or sugar. I slice an orange and stud it with cloves, turning it over several times while it is warming. My wassail is looked forward to by the fam each year. One year I tried cutting the amount of apple juice in half, replacing it with cider. Didn't like it. One thing I do use that I feel adds a unique twist to the flavor is some aromatic bitters I think I use a teaspoon for about the same amount of liquid in this recipe. Can't remember! Oh to be young again.
