ALMOND BARS | |
1 c. butter 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 c. almond paste 1 3/4 c. sugar 2 c. flour 2 eggs 1/2 tsp. salt (opt.) 1/2 c. nuts, chopped (or toasted, slivered almonds) May use 1 (12 1/2 oz.) can of almond filling. This will make the bars moist and high. Cream together butter and almond paste. (Let it set at room temperature for several hours before using, along with the butter.) Beat in sugar and eggs. Add flour and, if you wish, salt. Pour into greased 9"x13" pan; sprinkle with nuts and bake in preheated oven at 300 degrees for 40 minutes. When cool, cut into bars. May be frozen. They stay fresh for a long time if kept in air tight container. These are a favorite with everyone. Tastes like banket, only easier! |
