WALDORF ASTORIA RED CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 tbsp. red food coloring
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening and sugar and eggs together. Add cocoa; flour and salt. Add buttermilk; vanilla and food coloring. Blend in vinegar and soda. Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

FROSTING:

1 c. milk
3 tbsp. flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

In saucepan blend milk and flour; cook until thick and cool. Cream together sugar; butter and vanilla. Blend both mixtures together until like whipped cream.
