WHITE TEXAS CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
2 egg whites
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla

11x15 pan. Preheat oven 350 degrees.

Cream shortening and sugar. Add unbeaten egg whites. Sift in flour, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk; add vanilla flavoring. Pour in greased pan. Bake 20-25 minutes.

FROSTING:

1 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped nuts
1 1/2 c. coconut

Melt butter. Add buttermilk, sugar and vanilla. Spread on cooled cake. Top with nuts and coconut.
