AUNT JESSIE MADDEN'S DEVILS FOOD
CAKE
 
CUSTARD PART:

2/3 c. cocoa
2/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix cocoa, sugar, milk and yolk. Cook slowly until thick. Cool and add vanilla.

CAKE PART:

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs, one at a time. Add flour alternately with the milk that has had the soda added to it. Add custard part. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes in 2 layer pans. Ice with 7 minute icing. Serves 20.
