BROWN STEW | |
2 lbs. stew meat 1 tbsp. fat 4 c. boiling water 1 tbsp. lemon juice 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1 clove garlic 1 med. onion, sliced 1-2 bay leaves 1 tbsp. salt 1 tsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. pepper 1/2 tsp. paprika 6 carrots, quartered 4 or 5 potatoes, cut in cubes Thoroughly brown meat on all sides in hot fat. Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onions, bay leaves and seasoning. Cover, simmer for 2 hours. Stir occasionally to keep from sticking. Remove bay leaves and garlic. Add carrots and potatoes. Cover, continue cooking 30 minutes or until vegetables thicken liquid for gravy. |
