HOT MILK SPONGE CAKE 
2 (1/4 lb.) sticks butter
1 c. milk
4 eggs
2 c. granulated sugar
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt

Heat 1 cup milk to boiling point. Add 1/4 lb. butter to milk, melt. Beat 4 eggs, until light and fluffy. Add 2 cups granulated sugar, beat. Add 2 cups sifted flour with pinch of salt and 2 teaspoons baking powder. Beat again just enough to mix.

Add hot milk mixture and 1 teaspoon vanilla, beat again. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes in a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. When cake is baked spread 1/4 lb. butter on hot cake. Sift 10x sugar over top of cake. This cake makes a delicious strawberry shortcake hot or cold.
