DATE NUT CAKE 
1 (8 oz.) pkg. chopped dates
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
3 tbsp. butter
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts (pecan or walnut)

Mix dates with sugar. Dissolve soda and butter in boiling water and add to date-sugar mixture. When cool, add flour, salt, and nuts. Bake in flat glass dish or cake pan for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. When cool, cut in squares and serve plain or with whipped cream. Serves 10-12.
