DATE NUT CAKE 
1 c. flour
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder (rounded tsp.)
1/2 tsp. salt
6 eggs, separated
1 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. whole dates, pitted & slightly floured
1 lb. English walnuts

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Beat egg yolks and add dry ingredients, stirring well. Add vanilla and stir. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold in. Add dates and walnuts. Bake in greased and floured angel food cake pan for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Cool in pan before removing. Store in tightly covered tin with sliced apple or cloth moistened with wine.
