APPLE CRUMB CAKE 
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. butter
1 unbeaten egg
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. pared, chopped apples
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Mix together flour, salt, spices and sugar. Cut in butter with a pastry blender. Save 1 cup of this for topping. Add the egg, buttermilk and soda. Beat until well blended. Stir in apples and nuts. Pour into 9x13 inch greased pan. Sprinkle with reserved topping. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Most delicious when served warm.

Great coffee cake! I grated the apples because I don't like the chunks. Very moist, easy to make, and a big hit at my coffee.
