OATMEAL DATE CAKE 
1 cup boiling water poured over 1 cup Quick Oats. Let set until cool and set aside to add last.

2 eggs, beaten
1 c. sifted flour
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. shortening (Crisco or butter)
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped dates
1 tbsp. rum or 1/2 tsp. vanilla (optional)

Mix eggs, sugar, shortening, nuts and dates; add dry ingredients. Then add cooled oats. Transfer batter to a greased loaf pan.

Bake at 350°F for about 30 to 35 minutes.
