HOMEMADE MAPLE SYRUP 
2 c. sugar
1 c. boiling water
Maple flavoring

In a saucepan, combine sugar and boiling water. Continue stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Add maple flavoring to taste (approximately 1 tablespoon). This syrup should be stored in refrigerator and reheated for hot syrup.

I found out that vanilla works too. I didn't have any maple so I used vanilla, and so far so good
