POMMES DE TERRE GRATIN | |
6 oz. Swiss or Gruyere cheese, grated or sliced 6 potatoes, sliced thin 2 lg. onions, sliced very thin 4 tbsp. butter 1 1/2 c. sweet cream 2/3 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a shallow baking dish (preferably one that has a cover) with bits of butter. Cover the bottom of the dish with some of the sliced onions, then a layer of potatoes and Swiss cheese. Sprinkle salt and pepper as you make layers. Continue with another layer until onion, potato, butter and cheese are entirely used. End with potatoes on top. Pour cream over all. Cover and bake for 1 hour. Uncover and bake for another 1/2 hour until brown. Serves 6-8. |
