GRANDMA'S OATMEAL CARAMELITIES 
44 candy caramels
7 tbsp. evaporated milk
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. butter, melted
1 1/2 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts (optional)

Melt caramels in milk in double boiler or microwave. Cool slightly. Combine flour, oatmeal, sugar, soda, salt and butter in a bowl. Press half of crumbs in bottom of a 9 x 13 inch cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts, then spread caramel mixture over this. Put rest of crumbs on top and bake 15 to 20 minutes longer or until golden brown.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
