1/2 c. buttermilk 1/2 c. milk 3 eggs, beaten 1 c. self-rising flour 1 c. yellow or white corn meal 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. pepper 1 tsp. sugar Onions to taste (1 sm.), chopped fine 2 tsp. baking powder Combine all ingredients except baking powder. When smooth add baking powder. Stir again until smooth. Set aside (30 minutes). Batter will rise, don't stir again! Spoon into deep fat. Fluffiness will remain while cooking. Spoon with teaspoon into deep fat. (Use Crisco in can, not oil.) Keep turning while browning, serve with honey butter. |
