BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
1/4 c. shortening
1 tbsp. sugar
3/4 to 1 c. buttermilk
1/4 c. flour, for kneading
2 c. self rising flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 stick butter or melted butter

Mix flour, 1 3/4 cup sugar, and soda together. Cut in shortening with a fork or pastry cutter until grainy texture. Mix in buttermilk. Either drop biscuits or use kneading flour and knead. Roll on floured surface to 1/4 inch thick and cut with a glass. Bake on lightly greased baking sheet, 15-18 minutes until golden at 375 degrees. After baking, brush with melted butter.
