GINGER COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. Brer Rabbit molasses
1 egg
2 c. and 2 tbsp. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves

Melt shortening in saucepan over low heat. Let cool while you sift flour, salt, soda and spices 3 times. Mix melted shortening, sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well. Add flour mixture and mix well.

Chill at least 1 hour. Form 1 inch balls, roll in sugar and place on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees 8-10 minutes. For Christmas, put a dot of white frosting and a red hot.
