ROMAN APPLE CAKE 
1 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 egg
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
3-4 diced apples

Cream Crisco, sugar, add vanilla and egg, beat well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Mix well. Add diced apples. Pour into cake pan. Top with:

2 tbsp. butter
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. nuts (optional)
2 tbsp. flour

Heat all together except nuts - add nuts. Pour over batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes.
