DATE BREAD 
1 tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. pitted dates
1 c. boiling water
2 c. pastry flour
1 egg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. chopped nuts
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Add dates and soda to the boiling water. Cool. Blend in the remaining ingredients. Bake in a loaf tin at 350 degrees until done.
