MOTHER'S HOMEMADE BROWNIES
1 stick butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. pecan or walnut pieces
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. plain flour
1/2 c. baking cocoa

Mix softened butter with sugar. Add eggs and mix until creamy. Add vanilla and salt. Add flour and mix slowly. Add baking powder. Add baking cocoa and blend until creamy. Add pecans or walnuts. Pour into an 8x12 inch baking pan. Wax paper works best but Pam and flour will work to keep from sticking. Bake in preheated oven at 325 degrees for 30-40 minutes.

They are best if somewhat gooey in the middle. Remove from pan immediately after taking out of oven. Take wax paper off while still hot. Wait 5 minutes before cutting. Get a large glass of milk and enjoy!

I haven't made the brownies yet, I was looking at the recipe and was relieved to see it was only 1 cup of sugar (that's all I had). I was also happy to see the measurements are easy to read, like instead of 1/2 cup of butter, you put one stick. I'm hoping these brownies will turn out great!! Thank You!

I've never made brownies from scratch before, although after this simple recipe I'll never buy the box junk again. Other than cutting back on the salt next time I make them, these were great and a hit with the family

I have never made brownies from scratch but couldn't find a box in my cupboard and was craving some so I looked up a recipe and found this easy one. The batter seemed like it wouldn't be enough to fill the pan (i didn't use the nuts) and it was a bit too thick so I added a little (2 tsps) of veg oil and that thinned it out enough to spread in the pan. The batter rose more than I thought it would and the brownies are great. Only thing is, next time I will add half as much salt because they are a bit too salty adding a full tsp. Thanks for the recipe!

Its in the oven right now, but the batter was really thick especially when adding the cocoa powder so I added a bit of water which helped thin it out. I tasted some batter after it was in the oven and i wish I used less salt, but so far it's going well

Great recipe. I too only put a pinch of salt in the recipe, and I swapped the vanilla for 1 and a half teaspoons of coffee powder to take the edge off. Te recipe seemed a bit thick so I also added a splash of diet coke (I happened to be drinking some at the time). The recipe turned out really well, although my pan was a bit big so I had to lessen the cooking time and temperature to prevent burning. Yummy :)
