GUMDROP JEWELS 
1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 2 c. oatmeal 1 c. coconut 1 c. finely cut up gumdrops (do not use black ones)

Cream fat and sugars together. Beat in eggs. Add vanilla. Sift flour, salt, soda and baking powder together. Use 1/4 cup of flour mixture to sprinkle over gumdrops. Add remaining flour mixture, oatmeal and coconut to the creamed mixture. Blend well. Add gumdrops. Drop by teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet and flatten with a fork dipped in milk. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 5 dozen cookies.
