CORNISH PASTY | |
Make pie crust for 2 pies (double recipe I gave). Cut round steak into 1/2 inch cubes (or you CAN use ground beef, but don't TELL!) - 2 lbs. of that 6 med. potatoes, peeled & diced 3 to 6 onions, chopped (THIS WAS A FAMILY UNDERTAKING AT MUNGER'S!) Dot with butter. Cover with top crust and seal. Make slits like spokes in crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees, pour a bit of cream (half and half should be fine) into slits, and bake an additional 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Add a bit of cream again halfway through if needed. Serve with whole milk or half and half, NOT chili sauce, for those who want to go our families way! A tossed vegetable salad - low cal can help balance the calorie count. WELL, this is a special treat. Some scalded cream on plum preserves would be a fantastic way to end the meal, if you can find the preserves and manage to scald the cream. |
