SCALLOPED TOMATOES 
1/4 c. minced onion
3 tbsp. butter
2 c. soft bread cubes
1/2 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 - 28 oz. can (#2 1/2) tomatoes (packed in puree is best)
1/4 c. bread crumbs
1 tbsp. melted butter

Sauté onion in butter until tender. Add next 4 ingredients. Arrange layer of tomatoes in bottom of greased 1 1/2 quart casserole. Top with layer of onion mixture. Continue until all is used, tomatoes on top. Combine 1/4 c. bread crumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle on top of casserole.

Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes.
